EBAY
Selling on Ebay. Ebay is the world biggest auction
site where people can sell used and new products.
You can sell you products as an auction, a "Buy it Now"
or sell it in your Ebay store.
Can I make a lot of many selling on Ebay?
There is still some potential, however there is significant
more competion entering this market daily. Only professional players
will succeed. Only sell a product which is really "hot" and does not have too many competitors.
Nozzie has been successfully selling designer ties and accessories
on Ebay for the last few years. Key to success is:
Getting the right products: Is there a demand for these products?
Processing listings effectively: Editing images, defining the products
well that it is easy to find for lots of potential clients.
Product which sell:
- Vintage Clothing
- Antiques
- Designer Clothing
- Memorabilia
Most Ebay-ers pay with Paypal. Only a one time signup is needed
and you can pay fast with just entering your email and password
(instead of filling in all your shipping and credit card information
every time you buy). Having a Paypal account is a necessity to be
successfully on Ebay.
What does it cost to sell on eBay?
Your total cost will be a total of the Insertion Fee, Final Value Fee, and listing upgrade fees. Here’s how it works:
As Ebay makes it too complex to explain what really the cost will be here are some rough estimates: Ebay web designer
An item (assume it is clothing) of $25.00 - $49.99 =
Auction:
- Insertion Fee = $1.00
- Final Value Fee (when sold) = 8.75% of the initial $25.00 + plus 3.50% of the remaining closing value balance
Fixed Price/ Store Item:
- Insertion Fee = $0.15
- 12.00% of the initial $50.00, plus 9.00% of the remaining closing value balance

Tips to sell more effectively (not spending too much time, getting
the products, shooting the images, defining the description):
- Get multiple of the same item: 3 - 30 pieces, as you can relist the product
with not too much effort. (instead of creating a description, shoot
images, upload images for just an one time listing)
- Sell a product with a margin. It is really tough to get rich
selling $1 products for $2.20. You have to get the listing up,
communicate about the sale, pack the product, ship it for just
that low margin.
- Sell products on Ebay which potential buyers already know. A
well known product like Levis 501, Tommy Hilfiger necktie, is
a known product for buyers and they are more likely to buy. Instead
of having a product what looks good on the picture but potential
clients are not how thick the silk is, how the fabric is etc.
In general for online sales, "new/ not known" products
are tough to sell.

In 2009 more than 93% of listings on Ebay are ""buy it now" and only 7% auction listings.
As Ebay focused more on getting more sellers over the years, product prices went down, fees went up. This has been it a lot less attractive to sell on Ebay.
Ebay also added al kind of wissle and bells (shipping options, more pictures options etc.) which makes it more time consuming to "deal with" Ebay.
In 2009 fees are close to 10% of the selling price. Auction cost an additionl $1- $2.50 per week just for the listing. |
